Despite, suffering their third consecutive defeat scrumhalf Joe Powell is adamant his side can regain their winning mentality as the play-offs draw closer.

"It was definitely a frustrating loss," Powell said.

"I think everyone was just a bit off, to be honest. Everyone has an off game but we still all believe in ourselves so we’re well and truly in it,"

The Australian conference leaders take on the Chiefs this upcoming weekend, and with the New Zealand side occupying the third spot in their conference, the two side are set to meet again in quarter-finals.

"I think both sides are probably going to just try and feel each out this weekend, next week is the one you want to win,” he said.

"It’s about momentum and getting that winning feeling back. We had a really good run leading up to the break and it wasn’t the ideal time to be going away so it’s so important for us to build that winning feeling again,"

The loss at the weekend was accompanied by injuries to centre Kyle Godwin and wing Aidan Toua.

The pair will miss the quarterfinals after both sustained season-ending injuries. Toua has been ruled out for up to six weeks with an ankle sprain, while Godwin is likely to miss up to three months with a knee injury.

"This is not the time of the year that you want to be losing players so it’s frustrating but we do have a heap of players on board so there are plenty of players to help cover those injuries," Powell commented.

"However, everyone have been training together all year so if new guys do come in then I think they’ll definitely bring some new energy," he added.
