Cordero played his rugby last season for the Argentine franchise the Jaguares but has not been named in their 2018 squad.

The utility back has been linked to the Leicester Tigers by a number of Argentine media outlets and Matt O’Connor confirmed the clubs interest in Cordero.

“We are always in the market to bring quality into the group,” said O’Connor.

“He’s a guy who is available and we have had a conversation with him around that.”

“But it is around dispensation and budget and all the other dynamics that go with the game these days.”

“It is nowhere near a certainty, but we have had a conversation because he is a quality player and we think he would add a lot to the group.”

Colm Kinsella of The Limerick Leader also reported today that Munster has an interest in the 24-year-old.

Munster are currently on the lookout for a replacement fullback, after Racing 92 confirmed rugby’s worst kept secret, that Simon Zebo would be joining their ranks for the 2018/2019 season.

Cordero caught the attention of a wider rugby audience during the 2015 World Cup with his pace and stepping ability, having scored memorable tries, two against Georgia and one against Tonga.

His clean breaks and distance covered were also noteworthy, thus making significant contributions to Argentina’s fourth place in the tournament.

To date, he has been capped 33 times by Los Pumas and scored a total of 55 points.
