Highlanders thump Waratahs in Queenstown
SUPER RUGBY PRE-SEASON REPORT: Waratahs suffered a 29-55 defeat to the Highlanders in cold conditions in Queenstown.
The match was played over three 30 minute periods, in chilly conditions.
The Highlanders took the early lead thanks to a Greg Pleasants-Tate try, however, Waratahs took a 10-7 lead courtesy of a double by wing Alex Newsome at end of the first 30-minute period.
In the second 30-minutes, the Highlanders up the intensity.
Tries by Josh Ioane, Jackson Hemopo and a Rob Thompson double handed Hurricanes the 33-10 lead while Waratahs were kept scoreless.
In the final period, Highlanders added four more tries to their tally while the men from Australia crossed the chalk twice to narrow the gap.
