The Cheetahs and the Sharks will play each another on January 24 next year in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in a Super 14 warm-up match.
Sport promoter Willem Strauss confirmed that the two South African franchises have accepted the invitation to play the Super 14 preparation game in Abu Dhabi.
This is the first time such a match will take place in Abu Dhabi.
"There are tens of thousands of South Africans working and living in the UAE and both these South African sides have a huge support base in the UAE," said Strauss.
"The possibility of playing a game in Abu Dhabi is an exciting prospect which we look forward to. The players are always travelling to New Zealand and Australia.
"The opportunity to tour this amazing country is something we don't want to miss," said the Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské.
The Bulls and the Stormers played a similar Super 14 pre-season match in Dubai in 2007, which proved to be a big hit with rugby supporters in that area.
