Trio join the Crusade

Mon, 06 Oct 2008 10:09

The Canterbury Rugby Union (CRU) have signed up three new players, who will be eligible to play for the Crusaders in next season's Super 14 competition.

Jared Payne, Bronson Murray and Thomas Waldrom transferred to the Union before last Friday night's cut-off for transfers.

Fullback Payne and prop Murray, both from Northland, have been signed by Canterbury and will be loaned back to Northland to play in next year's Air New Zealand Cup competition.

Wellington No.8 Waldrom, who played for the Hurricanes this season, will be loaned to Hawke's Bay for next season's Air New Zealand Cup competition.

The 25-year-old Murray, who can play tighthead or loosehead, was in the Blues squad for this season's Super 14.

Lock Ross Filipo, who has played 38 times for the Crusaders and three Tests for the All Blacks, will transfer from Wellington to Canterbury for next season's Air New Zealand Cup.

Canterbury fullback Paul Williams, who played for the Highlanders this season, has transferred to Auckland and will be eligible to play for the Blues next season.

CRU Chief Executive Hamish Riach said: "Jared, Bronson and Thomas are valuable additions to our group and we would like to wish them a warm welcome.

"Of course we know Ross very well and value his contributions to the Crusaders immensely. It will also be great to see him in Canterbury full time from next season.

"Paul Williams has played a big part for Canterbury and we wish him all the best for the future. He is a fine player and character and we're sure he will do very well."
