Twins commit to the Reds

Two of the form players of the Super 14, twin brothers Anthony and Saia Faingaa, have re-committed to the Reds for the next two years.
Anthony, who has won 14 Reds caps since joining the squad from the Brumbies in 2009, has been putting in consistently strong performances at inside centre after getting an opportunity this year with the departure of Berrick Barnes, while Saia claimed the starting hooker position when the experienced Sean Hardman missed the second round through injury and has held onto it ever since.
The 23-year olds have won praise for their high workrate and are flourishing under the guidance of head coach Ewen McKenzie and the new law applications that encourage attacking rugby.
McKenzie said the brothers had made the most of their opportunities by working hard during the off-season and then performing well when given the chance on the field.
"We want to reward performance and both Anthony and Saia are giving us what we want. As a result we were keen for them to be part of our future plans. By re-signing through to 2012 they obviously recognise what we have going here and want to be part of it."
Saia Faingaa said with the team doing so well and both he and Anthony enjoying their rugby at the Reds, re-signing was not a hard decision to make.
"The way we’re going it wasn’t [a hard decision]," he said.
"Being part of building a new team and a new culture is exciting for us and we want to continue with it.
"We also jumped at the opportunity to be able to stay together. It’s a great honour to be able to start in a Super 14 match and for us to be in the starting team together makes it even better."
