Disappointed Dunning eyes Reds

Tue, 06 May 2008 00:26

Seasoned Waratahs prop Matt Dunning, who on Monday was officially ruled out of Saturday's crucial Super 14 showdown with the Stormers in Cape Town because of a calf strain, said he was aiming for a "speedy" return.

Dunning suffered the injury in the Waratahs' 13-16 loss against the Bulls in Pretoria last weekend.

"A scan confirmed I've got a strained calf," Dunning said in Cape Town, adding: "Although I'll miss this weekend [against the Stormers] I'm hoping to be available for the following week against the Reds.

"It's really disappointing to miss this match. It's such a big game both teams have been going well and there is a lot at stake."

Dunning will remain on tour to receive treatment by the Waratahs medical staff.

"It's only a minor strain, but it affects props more than other players - which means doing plenty of rehab work over the next week or so to be right for the Reds encounter."

The Waratahs line-up will be announced Thursday afternoon, South African time.
