Cheetahs secure another Bok

Wed, 07 May 2008 18:03

The Cheetahs have been buoyed by yet another big name signing with the news that Springbok prop Wian du Preez has committed his future to the Free State Rugby Union.

This comes at the same time as inspirational skipper Juan Smith renewed his contract with the Bloemfontein franchise.

It's great news for the Cheetahs as they have traditionally struggled to hold on to their big name players. Being one of the smaller unions in South Africa, they simply cannot compete financially with bigger unions such as the Sharks and Bulls.

The 25-year-old prop was part of the Springbok touring party that played Wales and the Barbarians at the end of last year and has a bright future ahead of him.

Born and bred in Bloemfontein, Du Preez attended the legendary Grey College in Bloemfontein. He represented Free State in the U13 and U18 Craven Weeks as well as playing for South African schools in 1999 and 2000.
