Wannenburg back in the mix

Wed, 14 May 2008 14:18

Bulls loose forward Pedrie Wannenburg has replaced the injured Wikus van Heerden for the Round 13 Super 14 derby clash against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Hilton Lobberts joins the substitutes bench as Dewald Potgieter did not pass a fitness test because of a hamstring problem.

Other than that, coach Frans Ludeke kept the rest of his team unchanged for the derby and has again named Burton Francis on the bench.

Francis will join the team in Bloemfontein on Saturday after playing in the Vodacom Cup Final on Friday.

In spite of the fact that there is nothing to play for against the Cheetahs, Bulls captain Fourie du Preez is adamant that his team must finish the season on a high.

"We said five week ago - after the Hurricanes game - that we want to win our last four games in order to restore some pride in our jersey and to gather momentum for the Currie Cup," he said.

"I think we have managed to do that and I am proud to say that we did not give up once we could not make the semi's any more.

"In the past it happened that the Bulls just gave up and took 50's and 60's[points]  once they were out of the competition, but we have shown that we still have what it takes to compete with the best in the business," added the skipper.

Bulls: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 JP Nel, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Fourie du Preez (captain), 8 Pierre Spies, 7 Pedrie Wannenburg, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Bakkies Botha, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Derick Kuün, 1 Gurthro Steenkamp.
Replacements: 16 Bandise Maku, 17 Rayno Gerber, 18 Jaco Engels, 19 Danie Rossouw, 20 Francois Hougaard, 21 Burton Francis/Francois Brummer, 22 Hilton Lobberts.

Kick-off: 17.00 (15.00 GMT)
