Perpignan face flyhalf crisis

France's 2009 Top 14 champions Perpignan are without a recognised flyhalf after it was announced on Monday that David Mele could be out for up to two months with a left knee injury.
Mele, who suffered the ligament injury during the opening 21-13 victory over champions Clermont on Friday, joins Nicolas Laharrague, out for three months because of illness, and Australian veteran Manuel Edmonds, who is unavailable for three weeks because of a right calf injury, on the sidelines.
South African centre Gavin Hume could have filled the vacancy but he is out for another month with a big toe injury, so the onerous responsibility is likely to fall on rookie Gilles Bosch for the next match with Brive even though he is just returning from a groin injury.
Perpignan also were moved to deny that they had reached any agreement with Wales star James Hook for a move from Ospreys though they have been in contact with the club for several months.
