Perpignan floundering

Sun, 29 Aug 2010 10:44

Perpignan, runners-up in May and champions the season before that are floundering with just one win in three matches. And their second defeat was at Stade Aimé-Giral, the Catalans home base and seemingly impregnable fortress and that to neighbours Montpellier.

Ambitious Toulon suffered its second home defeat of the season. The first was against Bayonne; this time it was Racing. Racing scored three tries to one and the seven [penalty goals by Jonny Wilkinson could not save the Mediterranean side.

The other side usually high up the scale to lose was Biarritz and that to lowly Agen, giving the newly promoted club its first win of the season. Agen's cause was helped by scoring seven penalty goals by Vincent Courrent. Biarritz scored two tries to one, one a penalty try.

Stade Français took their pink machine to Toulouse and got a hiding from Stade who led 16-10 at half-time while champions Clermont were much too good for Brive in a Massif-Central derby
