Battle-scarred: Dimitri Szarzewski is used to the physical stuff up front
Toulouse, champions of Europe, played neighbouring Montpellier in the fourth round of France's Top 14 and lost on Spring Day.
They could have won right at the death when flyhalf Nicolas Bézy, usually a scrumhalf, burst through to score close to the posts to put his side one point behind with the conversion to come. Bézy took the conversion which flew high but to the right of the uprights, leaving the home side with a one-point win which they probably deserved.
Toulouse scored two tries to one. Their first was off an intercept by the big Fijian Vilimoni Delasau who galloped off.
Montpellier's try was a splendid effort as their backs swept down the left side of the field for Argentinian Martín Bustos Moyano to score under the posts. Moyano scored all of Montpellier's 22 points, including five penalty goals.
Perpignan, who have looked so vulnerable this season, managed a win over feeble Biarritz, thanks to a controversial try by Kevin Boulogne who tapped and scored when there were medics around. But Perpignan scored two tries, Biarritz none.
Toulon, who have lost twice at home, won their second match away from home when Jonny Wilkinson scored all their points with three drops and two penalty gaols.
Stade Français battled against tough Castres, Racing beat champions Clermont Auvergne in Paris and in the basement Bourgoin had their first win of the season while the 'other Basques' scraped home against Brive.
