Marconnet leads Stade into semis

Wed, 18 Jun 2008 18:59

France international prop Sylvain Marconnet will captain Stade Francais in their Top 14 semifinal showdown against Toulouse in Bordeaux on Sunday, according to coach Fabien Galthie.

Marconnet, 31, recently extended his contract with the Paris-based side until 2011. He returned to competition in January after 11 months sidelined with a leg injury after a skiing accident.

"Sylvain is the choice," said Galthie.

"He's captain because he's an example. He came back after a long time in a black hole. A player who comes back from that returns stronger."

Galthie named a 26-man training group which will be reduced to 22 on Friday with David Skrela and Pascal Pape out injured.
