Dax escape with new recruits

Fri, 20 Jun 2008 23:24

Dax, who were handed a French Top 14 relegation reprieve, celebrated their escape Friday with the capture of backs Federico Martin Aramburu, Laurent Marticorena and Neumi Nanuku.

Argentine wing Martin Aramburu, 28, has won 15 caps with the Pumas since 2004 and has joined from Perpignan. He was previously with Biarritz where he played in the championship sides in 2005 and 2006.

Marticorena, 30, who can play at centre or fullback, arrives from Castres which he joined in 2002.

The Fijian, the 31-year-old Nanuku, comfortable at fullback or on the wing, was part of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series winning team in 2005. He played four matches with Castres last season.

Dax were saved from relegation when Albi, who finished just above them in the table, were dropped into the Second Division because of financial regularities.
