Stade Montois mount to the Top

Sat, 21 Jun 2008 22:50

Mont-de-Marsan beat Racing-Métro of Paris 32-23 to climb back into France's Top 14. They will join Toulon. But it took extra time to do it.

Toulon ended top of Pro D2. The four sides below them had to compete to be the second team promoted. They had come third in Pro D2 and beat Lyon who had come fourth while Racing who had come second beat La Rochelle.

This set up a decider in Limoges on Saturday, which Stade Montois won, scoring four ties to three to do so.

What a thrilling, seesaw match.

At half-time Racing led 15-13. At the end of regulation time the teams were locked at 20-all.

Jonathan Wisniewski, Racing's flyhalf, goaled a penalty to give his side the lead but then Stade Montois scored two tries, the first by fullback Florent Cazeaux, which Yannick Lafforge converted, the second by wing Jean-Marc Mazzoneto.
