Fourie gets time for his 'crime'

Springbok centre Jaque Fourie has been suspended for four weeks after being cited for making a dangerous tackle in the aftermath of South Africa's 30-13 Tri-Nations' loss to Australia in Brisbane.

The suspension, which ends on August 22, covers three matches - including South Africa's Tri-Nations' Test against New Zealand in Johannesburg on the previous day and two domestic Currie Cup games.

Fourie was cited over an incident in the second minute of Saturday's match in which he was yellow carded by Irish referee George Clancy.

Fourie was suspended last year for a similar offence.

His suspension is on top of two other Springbok suspensions, arising from citings in the team's two defeats against the All Blacks in New Zealand earlier this month.

Wing Jean de Villiers was suspended for two weeks for a dangerous tackle on Rene Ranger in the second Test in Wellington, which was won by the All Blacks 31-17.

Lock Bakkies Botha received a nine-week ban for head-butting scrumhalf Jimmy Cowan in the previous week's first Test, won 32-12 by the All Blacks.

The world champions are struggling to retain the Tri-Nations' title they won last year.
