Human wary of familiar foe
The UP-Tuks recorded the biggest margin of victory in the history of the competition in Pretoria on Monday. The ruthless onslaught on CUT has made sure Human's side slot into second place with a game in hand.
In the first quarter of the match, the UP-Tuks ran in six tries – which included two seven point tries – while the CUT side looked shell-shocked and never found their way back in a completely one-sided affair.
"It is a great win for us. My guys were really up for it, we knew it’s a home game and needed five points" Human told rugby365.com.
"The first 10 minutes was crucial, they wanted to work their way back in the game but we just kept applying the pressure.
"Having coached in Bloemfontein already, I was familiar with CUT's plan. If you give them a sniff they will make the time difficult for you, but if you get them on the backfoot in the first 20 minutes it is beneficial and that is what we did very well.
"
I did not expect to put 100 past them, but at halftime [with a 54-0 lead] I felt like it could be attained. You could just see it in the CUT side's body language – they were really out of the game," he added.
Despite having a good chance to leapfrog to first place – giving their game in hand – the Tuks mentor is solely focused on the next challenge.
UP-Tuks next match is against third place Shimlas, with only points difference separates the two sides, this inform Shimlas will be more of a challenge than their Bloemfontein counterparts and the head coach has warned his side not to let the CUT’s score line create complacency.
"We should really get this results out of our system because the game against Shimlas is going to very different. I know Shimlas I coached them before and they are going to be on the war path after their [12-58] defeat to Maties.
"We need to get a good result against Shimlas because that our road does not get any easier with UCT and Pukke waiting in the wings.
"And log leaders Maties just looks unstoppable, the fact that they just have CUT and UJ ahead makes vying for number one difficult.
"Thus, for now, my focus in just on bagging a home semifinal, and working on the points difference,"
