Williams happy to wing it for Wales
The Welsh have reached a quarterfinal meeting against South Africa on Saturday despite suffering a remarkable series of injuries. Williams has twice been forced to play out of position on the wing when he has come on as a replacement.
Against England at Twickenham Williams came on to the left wing, put in a clever cross-kick and sent teammate Gareth Davies in for a try to set up a dramatic 28-25 Pool A victory.
And Williams revealed that he and Davies had been reproducing the scenario in training for fun, like children playing in the back garden.
"It's been mainly the wings in the squad asking me about the cross-kick, asking why I did it," he said.
"It was the first thing that came into my head at the time, my instinct I guess. I have watched it back a few times and me and Gareth re-enacted it in the team run. We're hanging on to it a bit. We need to let it go now."
Williams may get a call to play on the wing again after Wales lost their sixth player from the original squad, and seventh in total. Liam Williams was forced out of the tournament with a foot injury sustained in the 6-15 defeat by Australia on Saturday.
Namesake Lloyd, who insisted he was happy to play in any position for his country, said Wales were refusing to let the setbacks get them down.
"We have just moved on from whenever it has happened," he added. "They are all very important players to us. It is a shame for all the boys who have left but we have had to move on.
"We have got to play next weekend. It is a case of putting it at the back of our minds and carrying on. We don’t think we are jinxed. It just so happens that we have had the most injuries."
