Cummins joins 'stay at home' crowd

Wallaby wing Nick Cummins has become the latest player to buck the trend of taking up lucrative Northern Hemisphere contracts.

Cummins has recommitted to Australian Rugby and the Western Force until the end of 2015.

The two-year deal makes Cummins the 19th player to re-sign with the ARU in 2013 – unlike in New Zealand and South Africa, where the have been mass exoduses of senior players.

He is currently recovering from a hand injury but has recently been named in the Wallabies 32-man playing squad for the 2013 year-end tour.

Cummins' 2013 Super Rugby season was limited for the Western Force due to injury, but his performance during his time on the field was enough to earn him a call up to the Wallabies squad for the British & Irish Lions Tour.

Despite not making selection for a match-day 23, Cummins stuck with the team throughout the duration of the Lions Tour and will once again join them to take on England, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in this year's Grand Slam year-end tour.

"It's great to put pen to paper with Australian Rugby for the next two years. I'm looking forward to being back with the Wallabies again and hopefully I can get some more game time during the year-end tour," Cummins said.  

"My hand is feeling a lot better and I can't wait to get back onto the field.

"I'm excited to be continuing with the Wallabies and building with the Force over the next couple of years too."

Since making his debut for the Wallabies in their 25-19 victory over Argentina in Rosario during the 2012 Rugby Championship, Cummins has transformed himself into a rising force in Australian Rugby and a cult figure on and off the field.

Cummins has played six Tests for Australia, with his pace and strength on the wing providing a great advantage.

He was emphatic in last year's year-end tour getting his first Test try at Twickenham in England.

The two-year deal means he will have an opportunity to play in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
