Player ratings: Blunt force
Scotland battled valiantly but lacked the cutting edge to avoid a 21-15 defeat to the Wallabies at Murrayfield.
Despite failing to cross the tryline, the home side kept themselves in the game by scrapping it out, but it was not enough to get past the Wallabies.
A dysfunctional line-out cost them valuable possession and territory, and while there was plenty of intent in their defensive efforts one or two individual errors let them down.
They will feel that they let a chance to make it three successive victories over the Wallabies slip, as their lack of a finishing touch saw them come up short.

15 Sean Maitland
An encouraging game in which he showed his pace and did some good work in cover defence but his kicking can definitely improve.

14 Tommy Seymour
Looked for work and threatened out wide, ran his way out of trouble in the 22 but had limited opportunities to test the Australian defence.

Got up quickly on defence and offloaded in the tackle well but lacked penetration and was stopped short of the gainline too often.

Found some space and ran good direct lines to straighten things up, competed well for the ball but did not stamp his authority.

Chased hard but his handling let him down at times, he should have scored in the corner before half-time but was stopped short.

Attacked the line and showed an ability to find gaps, kept his team on the front foot by kicking it into the corners but also dropped a few.

Controlled things with his kicking game and put Will Genia under some pressure, a creative force in his time on the pitch and was steady in front of goal as well.

Made good ground with the ball as he ran hard. Knocked on just short of the tryline but used his power to good effect and got around the park well.

Added some muscle, and got through a lot of work on defence, but was not really much of a factor at the breakdown.

Made a thrilling break from his own 22 and put in some big hits but drifted off the pace at times as he tended to go missing.

A good strong game, he was a rare solid line-out option, used his physicality to good effect and also showed some decent handling.

A disappointing game as he was blown up at breakdown, and for interfering at a line-out. Did not make much of an impact in open play either.

Blown up at the scrum, and was replaced after he got hit in the face by Rob Simmons.

His line-out throwing was not great and he had to go off after just 20 minutes due to injury.

Relatively stable in the scrums but missed a crucial tackle on Israel Folau to concede the opening try and got taken off early in the second half.
