Player ratings: French flops

What has happened to French rugby? That is the most burning question in the game at present.

Gone is the passion, gone is the flair and gone is anything that resembles a competitive team.

Yes, the scoreline suggest it was close and the French had a remote chance of a win  late in the game.

But it would have been a travesty of justice if they managed to get the victory. They were simply SHOCKING!

Jan de Koning rates the French players!

15 Brice Dulin:

Showed some serious pace in chasing kicks downfield, but his defence let him down and his goal-kicking was not on par either.

4/10

14 Yoann Huget:

Luckily the game was indoors, otherwise he would have been very cold on the wing.

4/10

13 Mathieu Bastareaud:

He plays like a overweight prop with lots of pace – simply making too many mistakes to be of real value.

3/10

12 Wesley Fofana:

France's most creative back by some distance and made heaps of tackles.

6/10

11 Maxime Medard:

A bit of a mixed bag – a few promising runs, a clean break and a few tackles, countered by disappearing at times and missing tackles.

5/10

10 Remi Tales:

They often ran at his channel; and he made a good number of tackles – also won a crucial turnover penalty turnover midway through the second half.

6/10

9 Morgan Parra:

He passed more than 80 percent of the possession he received and seldom tested the Wallabies around the edges – when he did run he lost the ball.

4/10

8 Damien Chouly:

A few strong runs, tackled like a demon and won plenty of valuable line-out possession.

7/10

7 Thierry Dusautoir (captain):

Pounced on anything that resembled a loose ball and was a rock on defence.

7/10

6 Yannick Nyanga:

Valuable to his team on defence and in the line-outs, but made no ground with the ball in hand.

6/10

5 Yoann Maestri:

Did the basics well, even winning a line-out steal and worked hard on defence.

6/10

4 Alexandre Flanquart:

Made some tackles and won some line-outs, but did little else that would have made you sit up and take note.

5/10

3 Rabah Slimani:

Solid in the scrums, but should realise there's more to the game than just scrumming.

4/10

2 Guilhem Guirado:

His line-out throwing needs work, but worked hard on defence and made one really threatening run.

5/10

1 Alexandre Menini:

Scrummed well and made his tackles, but were penalised a few times too many.

4/10

Replacements:

16 Brice Mach (on for Guirado, 70th min):

Not enough time to be rated.

17 Thomas Domingo (on for Menini, 49th min):

France lost their hold on the scrums once he came on – made Sekope Kepu look good.

3/10

18 Nicolas Mas (on for Slimani, 49th min):

Saw little of his famed scrumming power after he came on.

3/10

19 Bernard Le Roux (on for Flanquart, 65th min):

Yellow carded soon after he came on.

2/10

20 Louis Picamoles (on for Dusautoir, 66th min):

Made a huge impact after coming on, including a crucial tackle that resulted in a turnover.

6/10

21 Antoine Burban (on for Nyanga, 46th min):

Tackled his heart out.

6/10

22 Frederic Michalak (on for Parra, 74th min):

His first act was to pass the ball to an Australia player and from there it got worse. If he had not spent so little time on the field he could have been Australia's most valuable player.

23 Remi Lamerat (on for Medard, 76th min):

Not enough time to be rated.
