England captain Hartley – along with regular forwards Nathan Hughes and Joe Marler – were cited following the weekend's Champions Cup action.

The trio will face disciplinary hearings on Wednesday.

The Northampton Saints hooker Hartley was yellow carded during his side's Championship defeat against ASM Clermont Auvergne at Stade Marcel-Michelin.

Hartley is alledged to have struck the ASM Clermont Auvergne prop, Rabah Slimani, in the 30th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a).

Wasps No.8 Hughes is accused of dangerously tackling Harlequins flyhalf Marcus Smith in the 29th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (e).

During the same match, Harlequins prop Joe Marler was yellow carded after he struck the Wasps second row, Will Rowlands, with his elbow in the 48th minute of his side's 10-41 defeat.

The three offences carry sanctions of two weeks at the low end, four at the mid-range and anywhere between eight and 52 weeks at the top end.

The results will have a major impact on Jones' Test plans, who names his squad for the November Test Series on Thursday.

England faces Argentina on November 11, followed by matches against Australia a week later and Samoa on November 25, all at Twickenham.
