Montpellier in hot water?

Montpellier edged Stade 27-26 on Saturday, meaning the Parisians finished seventh, one spot off the top six teams who now advance to the play-offs.

But Stade argue that Montpellier replacement Du Plessis should not have played because he received a third yellow card last week, which normally results in automatic suspension.

The national rugby league (LNR) said its disciplinary committee would examine the case on Wednesday.

Should Montpellier be found guilty of incorrectly fielding Du Plessis, Stade would be handed a five-point "win", meaning they would vault city rivals Racing 92 into sixth place in the Top 14 table, with a quarter-final against no other than Montpellier.

Jake White's club argue, however, that Du Plessis was eligible to play while awaiting his call to face a disciplinary committee on May 17.
