Bulls get clean bill of health

The Bulls will still be without captain Flip van der Merwe for the big north-south derby, when they host the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday.

However, there was generally clean bill of health for the men from Pretoria on Monday, as they started preparations for what is expected to be one of the most brutal games for the season.

A handful of players – who participated in the 26-21 win over the Cheetahs at the weekend – sat out training on Monday.

However, according to team doctor Org Strauss they will be fit for selection for the Stormers match.

Jurgen Visser (foot), Jacques du Plessis (hamstring), Dean Greyling (bronchitis) and Bjorn Basson (influenza) will all train on Tuesday.

Van der Merwe (hamstring) and Piet van Zyl (knee) will miss another week of action, with Van der Merwe also serving out the final week of his three-match ban for punching.

Pierre Spies (bicep), Arno Botha (knee), Frik Kirsten (neck), Dewald Potgieter (bicep) and Deon Stegmann are all on the long term injury list.

The Bulls, following their first win since Match, will need to win on Saturday to keep their play-off hopes alive.

However, the Stormers are playing only for pride, which is when they are at their most dangerous – as was witnessed in their one-point (19-28) win over the Highlanders at the weekend.
