Canes: Vito also out of SA tour

Victor Vito has become the latest Hurricanes player to be ruled out their tough South African tour after rupturing his posterior cruciate ligament in training on Wednesday.

The loose forward's knee injury will leave him sidelined for six to eight weeks as the Wellington-based side's injury list continues to grow.

Vito joins centre Tim Bateman, loose forward Brad Shields and outside back Matt Proctor on the medical table.

The powerful number eight went down injured just a day after Bateman was carried off with a medial collateral ligament injury that will see him out of action for at least four weeks.

Shields is out for eight weeks with a knee injury while Proctor twisted his ankle last weekend and will miss the team's first two games, against the Sharks and Stormers in South Africa.

The Hurricanes play their final pre-season game against the Crusaders in Levin on Friday, before heading to South Africa on Saturday for the start of their Super Rugby campaign.
