Chaparro speared for ten weeks

Newport Gwent Dragons prop Francisco Chaparro has been banned for 10 weeks for a tip tackle on Leinster scrumhalf Isaac Boss.

The Argentinian front row forward was red carded for the tackle during the Dragons’ 19-31 Pro12 defeat in Dublin on Friday and received the suspension at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

The independent Pro12 disciplinary committee, chaired by Pamela Woodman, sitting alongside Iain Goodall and Douglas Hunter (all Scotland), having viewed video footage of the incident and listened to submissions by and on behalf of Chaparro determined that the offence committed was at the top end of the IRB's scale of seriousness.

In reaching its decision, the committee took into account aggravating factors, including the need for a deterrent for the type of tackle, together with mitigating factors such as Chaparro's previous good record and conduct at the hearing.

Chaparro is suspended until midnight on Sunday, April 27 and has the right of appeal.
