Davies and Cittadini banned

Cardiff Blues lock Bradley Davies and Benetton Treviso prop Lorenzo Cittadini were both handed bans at Pro12 disciplinary hearings on Wednesday.

At a hearing in Scotland Davies appeared before a disciplinary committee comprised of John Kirk (Scotland, chairman), Iain Goodall (Scotland) and Pamela Woodman (Scotland) – having been cited for an infringement of Law 10.4(h).

He was accused of having charged into a ruck or maul without use of the arms, or without grasping a player, in the match between Cardiff Blues and Connacht last Friday, September 13.

Pursuant to clause 9.8.1 of the Pro12 disciplinary rules, the disciplinary committee amended the offence with which the player was charged to an infringement of Law 10.4(a) – Punching or striking.

It was found that the player had committed an act of foul play under that law.

The disciplinary committee found that the act of foul play merited a low end entry point and, after applying aggravating and mitigating factors, imposed a sanction of two weeks.

Davies will be free to play from September 28 and has a right of appeal.

Cittadini appeared before the same disciplinary committee, having been cited for an infringement of Law 10.4(a) – punching or striking in the match between Scarlets and Benetton Treviso last Saturday, September 14.

The disciplinary committee found that the player had committed the act of foul play, and found that it merited a mid range entry point.

After applying aggravating and mitigating factors, the disciplinary committee imposed a sanction of three weeks.

Cittadini will be free to play from October 5 and has a right of appeal.
