'Doc' Roberts on call for country

Wales star Jamie Roberts could prove doubly useful in changing rooms from now on, after revealing that he has qualified as a doctor.

The Cardiff Blues centre received his final medical examination results on Monday, after eight years during which he has combined studying with playing rugby at the highest level.

"My nickname amongst teammates has for some time been 'Doc', and I've always felt like a little bit of a fraud," the 26-year-old told BBC Wales.

"It's nice that I'll finally be able to call myself a doctor. It's been tough but it's been worth every second to achieve one of my main goals in life."

Roberts follows in the footsteps of JPR Williams, Jack Matthews and Gwyn Jones, all of whom represented Wales at international level while juggling medical careers.

Roberts, a three-time Six Nations champion, will graduate from the University of Cardiff in mid-year, before leaving the Blues to join French club Racing-Metro.
