Hammett & Nonu smoke peace pipe

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has agreed to meet errant All Black Ma'a Nonu, as the two look to resolve outstanding issues between them.

Nonu, who left the Hurricanes under a cloud after a fall-out with Hammett, has moved to the Blues and then the Highlanders.

However, he appears to be keen on a return to Wellington as he continues to ponder his Super Rugby future.

Hammett confirmed that a meeting had taken place with Nonu, but would not say if it was about their much-publicised fall-out – which also saw Andrew Hore and Piri Weepu depart Wellington.

The veteran All Black, who showed improved form in the Test season, has also had disciplinary issue with the Highlanders – earning a number of yellow cards for foul play.

While not keen to divulge details, Hammett says they have spoken this week

"I had a meeting with Ma'a, as requested by him actually, and that conversation's private and will remain private until there's any information to give out," Hammett told Newstalk ZB.

The Hurricanes coach added that if anything comes from the talks, they will become public pretty quickly.

Hammett is staying tight-lipped over the meeting.

"Like I say, I can't comment on that but you guys will find out."

The Hurricanes are considered the only option available to Nonu next season, despite having left under contentious circumstances in 2011.
