Lengthy lay-off for Blues prop

The Blues' disappointing 27-30 loss to the Waratahs at the weekend has been compounded by news that All Black prop Charlie Faumuina will be sidelined for a lengthy period.

The Blues revealed in a statement that Faumuina will be out of action for up to six weeks with a calf strain.

The seven-Test tighthead prop suffered a grade two right calf strain midway through the first half in Sydney.

He will have an ultrasound scan on Tuesday to assess the full extent of the injury.

The prop will remain on crutches at this stage.

Angus Ta'avao, who came on for Faumuina on Sunday, shapes as the most obvious replacement for Saturday's blockbuster clash with the Chiefs.

Ofa Tu'ungafasi also provides cover at tighthead prop.

The Blues face the Chiefs at Baypark Stadium, Mount Maunganui, on Saturday.
