Super SARU

SARU has been nominated in five categories for the Sport Industry Awards.

SARU received five nominations – having also been nominated in 2011 and earlier this year – and was again the leading sports federation among nominees.

The sport of rugby also featured strongly with the Stormers, Bulls and Sharks also being nominated in more than one category along with SARU's advertising agency, Brandinc.

SARU collected the award for Best Integrated Sports Marketing Campaign in 2010 (Bokkie) and has again been nominated in the category for the 2011 Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens campaign.

The organisation has also been nominated as Sports Brand of the Year (Junior Springboks); Best Television Commercial (SARU – Absa Currie Cup 'Cup of Heroes'); Best Community Programme (Vodacom Cup Community Programme 'Tjovitjo') and Best Use of PR (IRB Junior World Cup 2012).

"We have performed strongly in these awards in the past and these entries have kept up the high standard we have set in previous years," said Jurie Roux, chief executive of SARU.

"We have a long list of events and teams of which we are proud and we go out of our way to showcase them to the best of our ability. These nominations recognise the great work being done by our marketing department and their partners.

"All sports are now in a competitive environment for the public's attention and only by constantly looking at ways to add value and create interest will we be able to stay in front of mind," he added.

The winners will be announced at the star-studded Sport Industry Awards ceremony on Thursday 7 February 2013, at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.
