Ospreys set for Friday night lights

The Ospreys will kick-off 2014 with a South-West Wales derby clash against the Scarlets on Friday, January 3 at 19.15 local time.

The fixture’s details were confirmed by Pro12 officials on Wednesday, following the FA Cup Round Three draw at the weekend, which saw Liberty Stadium partners, Swansea City, handed an away tie against Manchester United.

Supporters have been snapping up specially discounted tickets for the game over the last few weeks, with prices reduced as a gesture to loyal supporters who were committing to supporting the cause without knowing the day and time of the game.

Ospreys skipper, Alun Wyn Jones, said: "We've got some big games between now and Christmas, with Castres home this weekend and the Blues away next week, but there's no doubt that supporters already have an eye on the back-to-back derbies against the Scarlets.

"The derby match is a unique fixture with a very special atmosphere and is always a great atmosphere that we all enjoy being a part of. It's not just about local pride though, it's a hugely important Pro12 game in it's own right, and a night at the rugby is the perfect way to round off the Christmas holidays and kick-off the new year.”
