Rebels appeal Mitchell ban

The Melbourne Rebels will officially appeal winger, Lachlan Mitchell’s, one-match ban for a dangerous tackle against the British and Irish Lions.

Judicial officer, Nigel Hampton, found Mitchell guilty of lifting Lions winger Simon Zebo in the seventh match of the Australia 2013 Lions Tour following a hearing last week and suspended him for one match.

Mitchell was cited under Law 10.4 (j) Lifting a player from the ground and dropping that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground, such that the player’s upper body comes into contact with the ground.

The Appeal will be heard by Lex Mpati from South Africa on Wednesday, July 3.

If Mitchell's appeal is unsuccessful then he will be unavailable for the Rebels last Super Rugby fixture against the Highlanders in Melbourne on July 12.
