Ruthless Ospreys trample Treviso

Ospreys flew back into the PRO12 top four in style, running in eleven tries and sending Treviso back to Italy licking their wounds.

Jonathan Spratt and Sam Davies each dotted down twice as Ospreys smashed their record PRO12 win – previously a 60-7 win against Borders in 2004.

There were also tries for Ashley Beck, Rhys Webb, Aisea Natoga, Jeff Hassler, Dan Baker, Hanno Dirksen and Ryan Jones as the Welsh side won 75-7 and strengthened their playoff credentials.

Ospreys enjoyed much of the early possession and territory but the away side held firm and had the first opportunity to break the deadlock.

After venturing into the hosts' half for the first time in the match Treviso were awarded a penalty on 12 minutes, but Mat Berquist sent his kick wide of the posts.

A knock-on just shy of the line soon spoilt an almost certain try for Natoga, but Spratt dotted down after 21 minutes to ensure the frustration did not last too long, with Dan Biggar adding the extras.

And it didn't take long for the hosts to add to that score as Beck – invited to join the Wales squad this week – darted through the Treviso defences to score and Biggar once again converted.

Webb, making his 100th Ospreys appearance, was in the thick of it shortly after the half-hour mark, but the resulting charge was taken into touch before it could reach the try line.

However, the scrumhalf would soon make amends, getting his hands on the ball again a couple of minutes later and racing across the whitewash, handing Biggar a straightforward third conversion.

It took less than a minute of the second half for Ospreys to secure a bonus point, as Spratt raced over for his second – and Ospreys' fourth – try of the match.

Biggar continued his flawless record from the tee, extending the lead to 28 points and ensuring the away side faced a mountainous task to get something from the clash.

With the job seemingly done Webb and Biggar made way just six minutes into the second half, allowing a new halfback partnership of Tom Habberfield and Matthew Morgan – who impressed last weekend – to take charge.

And it was not long before the hosts made it five, with Natoga making amends for the earlier missed opportunity and Davies adding the extras for a 35-0 lead.

However, Treviso were not quite ready to throw in the towel and replacement Mantydas Tverga dotted down after 54 minutes.

Berquist this time bisected the posts but their joy was short-lived as Hassler soon powered his way through the last line of Italian defence, Davies duly converting.

And the contest soon turned into a rout, as Davies turned try-scorer only a minute later – he then converted the score himself for a 24-point lead at the hour mark.

The hosts rang the changes, with the likes of Jones and Dirksen taking to the field, and their task was made even simpler after 62 minutes, when Alberto di Bernardo was sent to the sin bin.

And it was one of the replacements – Baker – who was next to join the party, crossing over for Ospreys' eighth try shortly before Dirksen made it nine.

Davies converted the first but couldn't prolong the home side's perfect run from the tee as the second effort struck the post and bounced out.

Jones took the try tally to double figures six minutes from time before Davies was at it again, grabbing his second try and converting both, as Ospreys smashed their record PRO12 win.
