Samoa star sticks with Exiles

Samoa international Ofisa Treviranus and Academy star Gerard Ellis have extended their contracts with London Irish.

They follow David Paice, Shane Geraghty, Topsy Ojo, Darren Allinson, Halani Aulika, Jon Fisher and Tom Fowlie who have all recently extended deals with the club.

Treviranus has made 43 appearances for the club since arriving in 2011, scoring four tries. The versatile Samoan has played 26 Tests for the Pacific Island nation and made his Test debut against Japan in 2009. He had previously been an integral part of the Samoan Sevens side that won the IRB World Series in 2010.

Treviranus has made 14 appearances for the Club this season including 12 appearances in the Premiership.

Commenting on his decision to sign a three-year deal, Treviranus said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my two and a half years at London Irish and I’m excited to be here for another three seasons.

“Clearly there are many developments happening off the field at our club and the positive steps we are making from a rugby point of view made staying at London Irish an easy decision.”

Ellis is a London Irish Academy player with an extremely bright future. He has the ability to play in various positions and has excelled in both the back row and at hooker this season.

He has recently returned from injury and put in two very impressive performances in the Anglo-Welsh Cup against Wasps and Scarlets before coming on as a replacement in the victory over Saracens on Saturday in the Premiership.

Ellis, who has signed a one year extension, said: “I have been unfortunate with injuries during my two years at London Irish, but the club have always stuck by me.

“I want to push on next season and work hard to break into the senior squad. There is plenty of positivity around the club and it is an exciting place to be.”

London Irish Director of Rugby, Brian Smith, said: “It is great news for the club that both these players will be here next season.

“Ofisa has been outstanding for London Irish since he joined back in 2012 and Gerard is a hugely exciting prospect who we believe can be an International player in the years ahead.”
