Schools Top 20 - August 15

This would not be a difficult problem to solve, were it not for the non-playing sides that were playing till recently. They cushion the fall for two of the beaten teams.

Below SACS, KES, Waterkloof and Paarl Gim did not play, which hardly entitles them to promotion. KES were on their way when dangerous smoke turned them back from Pietermaritzburg. Waterkloof and Paarl Gim have each played 17 matches, and would not deserve to be dropped a long way.

DHS, Grey High, St Andrew's and Hudson Park did not play.

Grey College who have scored 156 points in their last two matches, both against Top 20 opponents, are obvious candidates for promotion. It was just a question of how far.

We have Selborne back in the Top 20 itself after beating Dale and we have brought Bishops into the pressure group below after their emotion-charged win on Saturday, when their coach, Richard Smith, arrived in a wheelchair.

Richard was violently assaulted by intruders in his house and he has been in Vincent Pallotti Hospital for six weeks. His wife, who is the sister of the SACS coach, brought him a wheelchair to the match and then took him back to hospital where he will be in rehab for some weeks to come.
