Tahs thumping Brumbies’ benchmark

Brumbies coach Jake White said his team set the benchmark for the remainder of their season with their comprehensive win over the Waratahs on Saturday.

The Canberra side trounced their rivals 35-6 after dominating all aspects of play and running in four unanswered tries.

The bonus point victory solidified the Brumbies’ place atop the standings and ensured the two-time champions will embark on their two-match South African tour high on confidence and momentum.

White was full of praise for his team but assured that they would stay grounded.

“It’s fantastic for us,” White said.

“It’s one of the most complete performances we’ve had as a group. We reflected on it a bit in the change rooms but we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves, it’s time to refocus and get ready to set that same standard in Africa.

“That was a massive game and now that’s the benchmark for us. There’s no reason we can’t play like that every week against any opposition.”

White said No.8 Ben Mowen has been phenomenal as skipper and has played an integral role in the development of the squad.

“The whole squad has grown, but we mustn’t underestimate the fact that they are led by a fantastic captain and with guys like George [Smith] here, the leadership in the group is very strong.”
