White's Brumbies glitter in gold

The Brumbies have unveiled their centenary strip in celebration of 100 years of life in the Australian Capital that they will wear for Saturday’s game against the Waratahs.

The predominantly gold jersey and socks represent the ACT’s traditional sporting colours, with navy and white blended through to create an attractive kit.

ACT Scouts and Centenary of Canberra chipped in for the jersey launch on Tuesday morning, supplying the Brumbies with their specially branded hot-air balloon to use for the occasion.

Brumbies players Nic White and Joseph Tomane were also on hand for the launch of the new strip, which they described as “bright’ and “exciting”.

“It’s an honour for us to be representing the ACT and to be a part of its rich sporting history. Growing up playing against ACT teams, they were always strong in whatever sport I competed in, so it’s nice for us to be able to represent all those people with this exciting jumper,” Tomane said.

“The people of Canberra invest a lot of their time and emotion into sport, they’re a very passionate bunch of supporters so it’s nice to be able to recognise them with this jersey.”

White was also impressed with the new kit, saying, “Gold probably isn’t Joe’s most flattering colour, but I look fine so the new strip can stay as far as I’m concerned.

“It’s bright, it’s exciting and most importantly it is representative of the ACT and the people we play for. With the theme of the Waratahs game being based on the centenary and our own heritage as Canberrans, I’ll be proud to wear this jersey.”

All 22 game day jerseys will be signed and available for auction after the game. Money raised from the sale of the playing jumpers will go back into ACT Community Rugby and replica centenary jerseys are available for retail sale.
