World Cup price shock for fans

Top-end tickets for the 2015 rugby union World Cup final are likely to cost more than £700 (€817, US$1,100), the head of the organising committee indicated on Thursday.

The Chief Executive of RWC 2015, Debbie Jevans, told reporters that the most expensive seats for the tournament's showpiece "will be around" £715 pounds – £75 pounds more than at the last edition in New Zealand in 2011.

"You do have to have a top price if you are going to have accessibility lower down and I am passionate about having those lower prices." said Jevans, the former Director of Sport for last year's London Olympics.

"There is a guarantee that we have to hit and to do that there are going to have to be some high prices.

"What is equally important is that we are going to ensure that we have accessibility, that we do have entry price of £15 for pool matches and we are committed to £7.

"But to have that accessibility there are going to have to be some top-heavy prices."

The most expensive ticket for on-field action at the Olympics was £725 pounds for the men's 100m Final.

RCW 2015 has to rely solely on ticket revenue to meet the £80-million guarantee made to the International Rugby Board.
