Another schools scrum query

Who told whom about the changes to the scrum engagement for schools in South Africa?

Brett Strydom writes: I have read that there has been a law change for the scrum engagement in  schoolboy Under-14-Under-16.

Is this correct and have all the Unions adopted this passive engage? Will it be implemented by the Unions this season at schoolboy level?

I have chatted to a few coaches at my son's school and nobody has heard about it!

SARU has the answer.

The changes will apply to all schools in South Africa in 2013.

On 6 December 2012, SARU sent the information to all the Union, the BokSmart Steering Committee, the SA School Rugby Association  executive, and the Union Medical Representatives.  The message was also driven via the Referee’s Department through their channels. SARU  also uploaded DVD clips onto the www.Youtube.com/BokSmartSA channel for visuals, and the document has also been posted onto the BokSmart website, Facebook, and Twitter platforms. It has also appeared on the SA Referees website: http://www.sareferees.com/News/scrum-calls-for-age-groups/2829788/

It is the Provincial Unions’ responsibility to inform all their stakeholders, i.e. primary schools, high schools and clubs, and the same for the Referees, and the SA School Rugby Association.
