Blues' chairman quits
NEWS: After five years the Blues’ long-serving chairman Tony Carter will leave the franchise at the end of the Super Rugby season.
The Blues have been experiencing a horrendous period – failing to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 and is set to miss out again this season.
According to Stuff Carter, who took over as chairman in 2013, conceded that the team’s continued lack of success on the field requires a shakeup at board level, with his own position the most obvious starting point.
He also stated that the Blues need to bring in someone with more rugby expertise to head the board.
“My personal view is the board needs more rugby expertise on it and for that reason I have told the board it is time for me to step aside and allow the shareholders to consider bringing in someone that can make a greater contribution to the rugby programme,” Carter told Stuff.
“We all believe we are close to unlocking the playing potential of this club and have the right people in place to do so. I believe someone with different experiences as the new chairman could help take our performance to the next level.
“It has been a privilege to chair the Blues.”
They currently sit second from bottom on the overall standings with a 3-10 record and just 17 competition points and have lost all seven home matches in 2018.
