No Easy Victory on K-Day

The 1st XV match on K-Day was always going to be competitive, and whilst College eventually ran out comfortable 24-5 winners, it was far tighter than the scoreline suggests, especially in the first half.

With a large crowd surrounding Lower Field, College once again started slowly, and it was Kingswood who eventually broke the deadlock, with a try to scrumhalf Nicholas Lawson-Smith, after poor control of the ball in the scrum by the College pack.

It did not take College long to bounce back from this setback however, and after showing good strength in the tackle, centre Charlie Fleming went over to level the scores. Murray Wilson converted and College found themselves in the lead. On the stroke of half-time, College showed good continuity and discipline close to the line, with Charlie Fleming scoring his second to see College 12-5 up at the break.

The second half saw College dominate possession and territory and whilst this dominance was not always converted into points, further tries to hard working captain Alex Menage and speedster Matthew Royle, saw College finish the game 24-5 in front.

Scorers:

For St Andrew’s:
Tries: Charlie Fleming 2, Alex Menage, Matthew Royle
Cons: Murray Wilson 2

For Kingswood:
