Kwaggas play host to Struisies

Oudtshoorn High School will tumble over the Outeniqua Pass to play their FNB Classic Clash against Hoërskool Outeniqua of George. They must feel anxious as they do so.

This will be the 48th Interschools between the Kwaggas of George and the Struisies of Oudtshoorn, the ostrich (volstruis) capital of the world. When it's played in George it's called Kwaggadag. In Oudtshoorn it's Striusiesdag. Wherever it's played itis a match that Kwaggas usually win. When the Struisies won 22-20 in 2010 it was their first win in 17 years. Last year Outeniqua won 68-14 and they have several of that team back.

Back for Outeniqua are Douw Schoeman, Warrick Gelant, Duhan van der Merwe, Dewald Human and Leighton Eksteen,  who were in the starting team and Marné Botha,  Stefaan Grundlingh, Hendri Storm, Geor Malan,  Remu Malan and Hennie Barnard,  who were on the bench.

Oudtshoorn have three back from last year's match – Jayden Onkers, Wynand Kuhn and Chris du Toit.

Last year Oudtshoorn played at home; this year they are away.

Season So Far

The seasons are very, very different. Outeniqua are fourth on the FNB Top 20; Oudtshoorn are nowhere like that.

Outeniqua have played 13 matches, won 12 and lost just to Paarl Gim. Eight of their matches have been against Top 20 teams and they won seven of them.

Oudtshoorn have won four of their 12 matches. Three of those matches are against Top 20 Teams – Die Brandwag, who beat them 51-3, Oakdale and Marlow who beat them 22-8.

Common Opponent

The only opponent they have in common is Oakdale, Outeniqua beat them 13-7; Oudtshoorn lost to them 57-3
