Muir Face Nico Malan

A windy Humansdorp saw hosts Nico Malan run in four tries to beat Muir 24-10 in a tough, physical encounter.  Nico Malan was ahead 12-5 at the break.

Both teams come out blazing from the outset and did not give one anther an inch on the field.  Nico Malan used the wind to their advantage when in their 22m to turn the Muir side to gain territory putting the College on the back foot.  In the stiff wind Muir’s forwards worked hard to cross the advantage line give their back space to play.

However, Nico Malan used the same tactic and capitalised to run in two tries.  The College was not out done and centre Lunathi Nxele showed some individual brilliance to cross the line just before the break to try and keep Muir in the game. At half-time Nico Malan led 12-5.

The second-half was no different.  The two sides went at each other hammer and tongs, making tackle after tackle and running with determination to gain ground for their side.  Nico Malan drew first blood in the second half to extend their lead.  This did not phase Muir and continuous pressure saw Nico Malan make a mistake resulting in wing Xolela Daniels running in a 45m try.

Game on!  Both sides had to dig deep to put a win in the bag.  Muir had a lapse in concentration which cost them seven points when Nico Malan scored their fourth and final try to take victory.

Muir’s flanks Siphelele Latola and Mziwamadoda Goba had a standout games forcing numerous turnovers and being a thorn in Nico Malan’s side.  Captain Lunathi Nxele lead by example and was a problem for Nico Malan’s defence.
