Profile: Juan Marais

The captain of the Schoonspruit Hoerskool is ready for the challenge when his side take on rivals Hoeskool Wolmaransstad on Saturday.

Marais has been playing rugby ever since he can remember.

"I started playing rugby in grade one, I used to play at flank but over the years I have moved out to centre," Marais explained.

The game this weekend is massive for Marais and his side because they will be looking to avenge the defeat that they suffered at the hands of Wolmaransstad last year.

As an avid Bulls supporter he tries to mould his game on Wynand Olivier and will be hoping he can show off some of his skills this weekend.

Although Marais has not played representative rugby, his experience at first XV level will be invaluable for his side.

"I have been a member of the 1st XV for two years now and have played centre for them for both years.

"We did not have a good start to this season but we have been getting better with the more rugby that we play," he added.

A win is what Marais is searching for but he has other goals for his side this weekend.

"I want us to play as a unit, play as brothers.

"If we play as a team this weekend I think we have a very good chance of winning," he concluded.
