Bulls not a one-trick pony says Smith

The Cheetahs and Bulls meet in this year's Currie Cup Premier Division Final at the Free State State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday and Smith believes their opponents have evolved significantly under Nollis Marais

"We know that they are pretty good at that [kicking] game, said Smith. "They are quite used to kicking and fielding it out of the air – I think they got brilliant talent on the wings. Jamba [Ulengo] has been playing good rugby this whole season and I agree that it is a threat.

"Roelof's [Smit] presence at the breakdowns will definitely make a difference for them and we know that. They are a team that are much more than those aspects and we are not just going to concentrate on that.

"Our most important thing, and it sounds like a cliché, is that we got to play better going forward.

Bulls not a one-trick pony says Smith"What we will do out there and how we are going to handle the pressure, will be more important for me because we spoke about getting better since halfway through the Super Rugby and this is another step in the growth of this group. Concentrating on our own thing is going to be our main objective."

The Cheetahs have impressed with their attacking game this season, but Smith knows how important his team's defence will be in the showpiece event.

"We want to be a complete side.

"I think defence compliments attack. We know that defence wins finals.

"The Bulls pose a different threat with strong ball carriers so it's going to be a big challenge to maintain what we doing," Smith added.

Smith hopes that Saturday will be the start of something great in Free State rugby.

"To play in a final in Bloemfontein is special

"If you look at our 120-year history, it did not happen a lot. And I hope it does not take long again before we have another one. It is a special opportunity and it is great to play in front of your own fans," he said.
