Dangerous Pumas looking to improve

The Pumas scored six tries on their way to victory in their Currie Cup opener in Nelspruit in a game which both sides were leading a couple of times.

While the Pumas attack looked dangerous throughout the 80 minutes, defence was an issue for Janse van Rensburg's side.

The Pumas conceded five tries to the Lions in the same match.

"They put their bodies on the line, for that I am thankful and respect the effort given," said Janse van Rensburg.

"We made life hard for ourselves though as we didn't look after the ball well enough at times and coughed up possession too easily.

"With a team like the Lions you need to be able to keep the ball for a decent period of time. But the players really wanted to play well and I think that pressure resulted in some impulsiveness evident, which happens.

"We will take a lot of good out of this match as there were certainly some great touches out there, but at the same time, we realise there is always work to do so that we can improve."

The Pumas will now travel to Durban to take on the Sharks in Round Two.

The Sharks started their campaign with 12-47 defeat to the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last Friday.

However, with the Durban side now knocked out of Super Rugby, they will welcome a number of first-choice players back into their Currie Cup squad for the encounter on Saturday.
