It was only the Lions third win in eight games in this year's Currie Cup, but the five points has lifted the Johannesburg outfit back into the top four.
"I am very happy with the effort that the players brought, especially in the first half, said De Bruin.
"I would have liked to get the bonus point earlier, but we are very happy to leave here [Kimberley] with five points.
"We wanted effort from the players and we got effort. We are very thankful and it was a good victory here in Kimberley.
"We are starting to become a team now."
The Lions, who were at the bottom of the standings before Round Nine started, are beginning to look like a more cohesive unit.
"We are very happy to get the five points. After being last [in the standings], We are now in the mix, so we are very happy.
"The guys showed a lot of character, especially during the yellow card periods – to not lie down and fight back and to score a beautiful try at the end," De Bruin added.
