Handling errors plagued Province's game at the Mbombela Stadium and the loss has also dented their hopes of finishing in the top two at the end of the regular season with four matches left to play.
"It was a really devastating result for us on Friday night," said Dobson.
"If we win all four [remianing matches] we probably got a home semi. If we don't win all four we might even miss out, so that's how important it is for us."
Dobson said he has never seen his side so poor in the handling department
"There was a little bit of dew around. I just got to put it as a freakish event because with guys with this skill level, which we have seen and can't doubt, to make 26 handling errors is just stratospheric.
"I have never seen anything like it."
Despite the performance in Nelspruit, Dobson said he is not hitting the panic button just yet.
"I am not too panicky about it because I know these guys' skill level, we see it every week.
"I've got to say that was an aberration and there are other areas of the performance that worried us that we need to work on. A bit more clarity on our kicking game and the breakdown wasn't very good.
"If you see Huw Jones in training, he doesn't drop three balls or four balls so I am not panicked about their skill level. I think the Stormers and Paul Feeny and [Robbie] Fleck have done a good job upskilling these guys.
"I just really got to put it out as an aberration. To go and learn to catch and pass will be a bit too late hey," said Dobson.
