Former Lion ready to make his mark for WP

De Wit moved to Cape Town from the Lions ahead of this year's Super Rugby tournament. However, his involvement with the Stormers was cut short when he broke his ankle in training in January.

The 25-year-old was seen as a solution to the Stormers' problems in the openside flank role and now that he is back to full fitness he wants to earn his place in Western Province team over the next few months.

"For me, the short-term goal will obviously be performing week to week – just focussing on every single week," said De Wit, who was named in the starting XV for Province's clash with the Pumas at Newlands on Saturday.

"I am not looking too far forward because I think that is the biggest mistake that a rugby player can make.

"Every single weekend is an opportunity. If you get the privilege to wear the jersey, wear it with pride and make sure you make it your own and have that privilege again the following week."

De Wit said the main reason behind his decision to head down to Cape Town from Johannesburg was to test himself against some of the Cape side's Springboks.

"For me, the decision was that I wanted to come to a union where I would be challenged and what better place is there than to play with guys like Siya Kolisi and Nizaam Carr, guys that played for the Springboks.

"So, at the end of the day, you want to measure yourself against the best in the country and the best in the world. For me I would say my decision was more based around that, wanting to come to the Stormers to be challenged in that sense and also to become a better player," he added.
